California Spiny lobsters usually weigh between 1 and 5 pounds. A fisherman, however, recently caught a nearly 12-pound beast in the vicinity of Anacapa Island.

Forrest Galante took the large Pacific Spiny lobster home was intent on having it for dinner. He suspected it would die overnight, however when he checked on it the following morning, Galante saw that it was very much alive.

At that point, he decided against eating the creature. Instead he took Albert Girther to the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History Sea Center.

The 60 to 70-year-old Albert was quite the star at the Sea Center and managed to attract crowds and smaller sized lobsters that flocked to it for protection. The enormous lobster spent a few weeks at the facility before Galante picked Albert up and dropped it off at a marine sanctuary in the Channel Islands.

In another instance of a rare lobster catch, a 14-year-old girl and her father caught a 2-pound, bright blue lobster earlier this year.
