Hollande's ex Trierweiler releases memoir

The former first lady of France, Valerie Trierweiler, is about to debut her memoir in the UK on her life with President Francois Hollande, "Thank You for the Moment."

She told the BBC's Andrew Marr that her trip to the hospital as her relationship was ending wasn't because of a suicide attempt, but an escape from the reality of Hollande's two year affair with actress Julie Gayet.

(SOUNDBITE) (French) FORMER FIRST LADY OF FRANCE, VALERIE TRIERWEILER, SAYING:

"As I say in the book, I took some sleeping tablets. It wasn't a suicide attempt, I just wanted to go to sleep. I didn't want to go through those moments, to see the photos, to face up to this new reality. I knew that they'd be published but I didn't look at them. I still haven't seen all of them, I can't look at them."

The book is stirring controversy in France amid revelations that socialist Hollande privately mocked the poor.
