Prius Gen 1 (2001-2003) center cluster finish panel removal

The center cluster (dash) finish panel on the 1st generation Prius has a reputation for being impossible to remove in one piece when it is aged and brittle (see, lots of posts in the PriusChat Generation 1 forum). Some people just automatically add the price of this panel to any job touching the radio, etc. I'm not convinced (but, disclaimer: the panel in this vid is only 7 years old with plenty of sun--no garage--while other cars with original panels are several years older than that).
