iW contributor Alex Lee explains why he is now wearing a new IWC Portuguese Chronograph Classic.
Although my collecting conundrum was a tough one, I managed to finally come to a decision among several excellent timepieces, and I'm beyond satisfied.
A big thanks to the iW readers who stepped up and decided to leave their comments or thoughts of what the right piece should have been. Your comments seriously impacted my thought process.
I also have to thank all the brands in contention for creating such wonderful pieces. (See here for the initial brands I was considering).
At this point you all likely know that I chose to add the IWC reference 390404 to my collection. I couldn't be happier with it, and I thank my friends at iW Leading Watch Retailer Manfredi Jewels of Greenwich, Connecticut.
In the January iW, I originally said I'd choose reference 390403 (the silver dial version) Portuguese Chronograph Classic, but it turned out this wasn't the case, and for a few good reasons.
The first was because IWC had run out of silver-dialed pieces, so I was offered an option to either try the ardoise (slate) model...or wait. I opted to take whatever they had in stock, and was kindly given the reference 390404 to try.
I immediately thought of how good this would look with a brown Santoni strap, and after a few days of wearing it the thought of owning the silver-dialed version didn't even enter my mind at all.
