Flooding from a ruptured water main caused ankle-high puddles of water to pool right outside Pauley Pavilion. The interior of the arena wasn’t in much better shape.
Flooding from a ruptured water main caused ankle-high puddles of water to pool right outside Pauley Pavilion. The interior of the arena wasn’t in much better shape either.
The floors of the court and locker rooms were covered in water. In some places the level was 8 inches high.
Crews estimate that between 8 and 10 million gallons of water poured onto the street and into the buildings on UCLA's campus before the water was shut off. The water had been flowing from a water main rupture near Sunset Boulevard for approximately 3 hours, which gave the liquid plenty of time to make its way to the UCLA campus and into the structures.
Some witnesses took off their shoes to wade across the pool outside the pavilion, while others showed up with skim or boogie boards
Back in 2012, Pauley Pavilion underwent a renovation that cost roughly $132 million. The flooding caused damaged to the arena, but thus far no one knows how much its going to cost to repair it.
In addition to the Pauley Pavilion, the John Wooden Center, the J.D. Morgan Center and Drake Stadium were also affected by the flooding.
