Man Caught Smuggling Woman into US in a Suitcase
A 56-year-old Phoenix man was caught trying to smuggle a woman into the US in a suitcase.
A 56-year-old Phoenix man was caught trying to smuggle a woman into the US in a suitcase.
He was re-entering the US after having been in Mexico when his troubles with the law began.
The man’s Honda SUV was stopped and inspected by officers from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Port of Nogales, located at the Arizona Mexico border.
When they opened and searched the suitcase located in the back of the vehicle they found a bunch of clothes. Upon moving the garments, they discovered something not typically found in luggage – a woman.
She’d been identified as a 48-year old Thai national. It remains unclear what happened to her immediately after being found or what her eventual fate will be.
The circumstances surrounding how she came to be put into the suitcase and driven into the US are also cloudy.
The man, however, could potentially be in serious trouble.
He was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and his vehicle was seized.
The agency has taken over the investigation of the matter, and the man could be charged with human smuggling.
