Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U (大乱闘スマッシュブラザーズ for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U Dairantō Sumasshu Burazāzu fō Nintendō Surī Dī Esu / Wī Yū) are two upcoming fighting video games being developed by Sora Ltd. and Namco Bandai Games and published by Nintendo. They both act as the fourth title in the Super Smash Bros. series of games, in which characters from various Nintendo franchises fight against each other. They were first announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2011. As the title suggests, the games are being developed for both the Nintendo 3DS and the Wii U consoles for a planned release in 2014.

Like previous games in the series, Super Smash Bros. is a competitive fighting game in which up to four players from various Nintendo games fight against each other. Players use a variety of attacks to damage their opponent, increasing their damage percentage which makes them easier to knock out of the playing field. Smash Balls, first introduced in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, make a return, allowing whoever obtains them to perform extremely powerful attacks. The game is presented in high-definition visuals on Wii U and black-outlining on the Nintendo 3DS. Both versions of Super Smash Bros. will contain the same number of playable characters, but feature exclusive stages. The Nintendo 3DS version will include more stages based on settings seen in Nintendo's handheld video games, while the Wii U version will have more stages designed after those in home console releases.

In the trailer at E3 2013, Mario and Bowser from Mario, Link from The Legend of Zelda, Fox McCloud from Star Fox, Kirby from Kirby, Pikachu from Pokémon, Donkey Kong from Donkey Kong, Samus Aran from Metroid, and Pit from Kid Icarus were revealed to be included in the new games, following their inclusion in Brawl. Two new characters were also introduced: the Villager from the Animal Crossing series and Mega Man from Capcom's Mega Man. Later in the day, the Wii Fit Trainer was displayed on the convention floor. On July 12, 2013, the Pikmin and Captain Olimar from the Pikmin series were added to the games' roster as another returning playable character from Brawl. On August 7, 2013, Mario's brother Luigi was confirmed to be a playable character as well. On September 12, 2013, Princess Peach was confirmed as a playable character; followed by Toon Link from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker two weeks later. On October 1, 2013, Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog, who was one of two third party characters featured in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, was confirmed to be returning. On October 31, 2013, to commemorate the release of Wii Fit U, a screenshot was released revealing the existence of a male variant of the Wii Fit Trainer. On November 7, 2013, Marth from Fire Emblem was confirmed to return. On December 18, 2013, Rosalina and an accompanying Luma were revealed as newcomers to the series during a Nintendo Direct.
