00:00Hi everybody, good to see you.
00:03I'm Carson Daly, honored to be host again of Odyssey's I'm Listening.
00:08I'm so excited to be hosting I'm Listening again.
00:11It's such an important topic.
00:13I never would have thought in my broadcasting career that spans almost 30 years now that
00:18mental health would be the thing that becomes, you know, my life passion really.
00:23My advocacy work has been so important and it's really stemmed from my personal experiences
00:28of suffering in silence for so long, not having any idea about the struggles of anxiety
00:34or depression or panic disorder.
00:37These are all things that I've come to learn a lot about and I really enjoy talking about
00:42it and sharing those stories and experiences with all of you just in some small hope that
00:47maybe it'll help you or give you some light or encouragement on how to get beyond it,
00:53how to manage it, how to live with it, how to find resources, all of those really important
00:57things.
00:59So I'm excited to dive in.
01:00There's a lot of different areas of mental health that we're going to cover.
01:02We've got mental health advocates at the ready to help us all out.
01:05Of course, your phone calls are going to make the two-hour I'm Listening special really
01:09what it's all about.
01:10So we encourage you to share your story.
01:12You know, when I shared my story on the Today Show, I didn't mean to talk about, you know,
01:15anxiety and panic attacks and all of the things in my life, but I did and I couldn't believe
01:21what it unlocked in people.
01:22They come up to me now more than anything else I've ever done in TV and want to talk
01:26about mental health, and I'm really honored about that.
01:30One thing I'm really looking forward to discussing this year in our two-hour special I'm Listening
01:34is the impact of mental health on kids.
01:36You know, people ask me, hey, you've got a lot of jobs, and that is true.
01:39I've been lucky, but my favorite job, my most important job is being a dad.
01:43You know, I lost my father when I was young.
01:45That was quite stressful, as you can imagine.
01:48My mom remarried to my stepfather, who's been a godsend.
01:51He passed away.
01:52So I love being a father.
01:54I've got four beautiful children under the age of 15, and having these discussions about
01:57the impacts of social media, mental health, them going to school, which all of a sudden
02:03now has become a stressful place.
02:04There's a lot in the category of parenting and children's well-being and mental health.
02:09What are normal signs, normal red flags?
02:11What's normal behavior versus behavior that as parents we should start to really take
02:15notice of?
02:16When do we get help?
02:17How do we get help?
02:19What's the appropriate kind of help?
02:21Will insurance cover that help, whether it's for us or our kids?
02:24There's a lot to still tackle and discuss under the umbrella of mental health, and I'm
02:29looking forward to doing that with all of you.
02:31We'll see you for I'm Listening.
