New Cologne Made Popular by Cows

If a contest were held for most unique cologne marketing, Maine’s Portland General Store just might win. Its new $110 vegan and organic Farmer’s Cologne has the primary selling point of putting cows, as well as the urban cowboy who loves both nightclubs and farmland, in a good mood.

The store owner and scent creator Lisa Brodar said, “I set out to make something sexy and subtle, that cows would find soothing.”

Modern Farmer writer Jesse Hirsch describes the scent that combines sandalwood, blue tansy, sage, and other proprietary ingredients as “a woody, earthen musk, with only a hint of the pungency found in mainstream fragrance.”

Brodar admits her product testing was not the most scientific as she doused herself in Farmer’s Cologne and made a few trips to a local dairy farm. Around her, the cows relaxed and milk production was high. Brodar noticed the cows nuzzling her a lot, especially the females.

Modern Farmer conducted its own field test and found the cows did prefer and were calmer around Farmer’s Cologne.
