Talk about a scenario right out of movies.

A man in Tennessee has been arrested after allegedly stealing human ashes from a home.
28-year-old William Cantrell has been accused of breaking into his neighbor’s home and stealing an Xbox console along with a small box which was filled with human remains. The ashes reportedly belonged to the neighbor’s mother.

According to the suspect’s grandmother, Cantrell thought the container of ashes was filled with cocaine. She said he brought the stolen goods back to her house.

Cantrell’s own mom stated “They just made it sounds like he's a bad, terrible person broke in this house and stole this woman's ashes. I'm not saying he's not guilty but he didn't know what he was stealing.”

It is not believed Cantrell actually snorted the ashes. A piece of paper over the container still had the deceased woman’s information on it along with a tie, meaning it is unlikely the box was ever opened.

Cantrell was arrested on an aggravated burglary charge, but his family hopes the court system will offer him addiction help rather than jail time.
