Join me in Seoul as I explore the world of Hanwoo beef, Korea's most coveted and expensive meat. Hanwoo beef is so rare and highly prized that it’s illegal to export, meaning it can only be tasted within Korea. Known for its exceptional marbling and tenderness, Hanwoo is often compared to Japanese Wagyu, yet remains largely unknown outside of Korea.

My journey takes me to Majang Market, the largest and most prominent meat market in the country. Here, I engage with local butchers to gain a deeper understanding of Hanwoo beef, its history, and what sets it apart from other premium meats. After selecting a 300g cut, a vendor invites me into his shop to demonstrate the precise and careful process of preparing this exceptional beef.

With the Hanwoo in hand, I proceed upstairs to experience the traditional method of barbecuing the meat. This exploration offers a rare glimpse into the world of Hanwoo beef and an opportunity to appreciate why it is considered one of Korea’s most treasured culinary offerings.
