00:00Now, Ukraine's president has held key talks with former U.S. President Donald Trump with
00:04the future of aid for Kiev in question.
00:07Volodymyr Zelensky presented Trump with his, quote, victory plan in New York, in a bid
00:12to shore up support if Trump is re-elected in November.
00:16Trump said he has good relationships with Zelensky and Russia's President Putin.
00:21He insisted he could get a deal to end the war, while also saying the U.S. is paying
00:25too much for Ukraine's defense.
00:27Zelensky earlier met with Trump's Democratic rival Kamala Harris, who said her support
00:32for Ukraine is unwavering.

00:45Hello Jenny.
00:46Trump told Zelensky that he will find a solution that is good for both sides if he becomes
00:52president.
00:53How could that deal look like?
01:23Right, sounds like a deal that is likely to favour Russia more than Ukraine.
01:47The Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris also met Zelensky last week and said
01:51that those who would have Ukraine trade territory for peace are supporting proposals of surrender.
01:57What is her plan really regarding Ukraine if she becomes president?
02:03So she has not been very precise about her plans if she becomes president, except to
02:07demonstrate or to indicate that she would be a force for continuation of the Biden administration's
02:13support for Ukraine.
02:14She has given some slight hints that she might go further than Biden, but these are only
02:18hints and we don't really know the details yet.
02:22But certainly, as far as Ukraine is concerned, a Harris presidency would be much more beneficial
02:27to them and much more in their interest than a Trump presidency would be.
02:30Right, right.
02:31Zelensky has recently presented his victory plan to the US and other allies in which he
02:36is trying to sell his vision for Ukrainian victory despite losses on the battleground.
02:42How do you think Russia sees his plan?
02:46Oh, Russia is not happy about his plan at all.
02:50We don't have a lot of details about Zelensky's plan still, but it is clear that the two central
02:55pillars of the plan are trying to get the US and other Western allies to allow Ukraine
03:00to use their weapons to strike deep into Russian territory, to damage Russia's ability to wage
03:05war and make life much more difficult for Russia.
03:08And secondly, Zelensky very much wants some security guarantees, as in NATO membership
03:13sooner rather than later, within months rather than years.
03:16And the combination of those two things definitely do not make Putin happy.
03:21Right.
03:22So is Putin still interested in negotiations?
03:27How does he want this war to end?
03:30Well, Russia's position and Putin's position has been very clear throughout the war, and
03:36that has been that Russia wants to take everything that it currently either holds or claims.
03:42Russia wants Ukraine to be neutral.
03:45Russia doesn't want Ukraine to have relationships with NATO and so on and so on.
03:50So basically, Russia wants everything.
03:51Russia's not willing to compromise on any points, as far as we can tell.
03:55And so, you know, in order to, you know, further the prospect of peace, you know, normally
04:02two sides at war have to each give something.
04:04And Putin so far doesn't indicate that he wants to give anything serious.
04:08Right.
