00:00If you play with fire, you're going to get burnt.
00:04That's what people say a lot of the time, and I mean, I think that there's a logic to
00:10it, of course.
00:11You know, your actions have consequences, but I think that it's also important to acknowledge
00:19the fact that making mistakes and taking risks sometimes point to really important lessons
00:27in our lives.
00:44I have always been pretty well known to be a rule breaker.
00:49Ever since I was a kid, I've definitely been very rebellious and very impulsive, very wild,
00:56very loud, very aggressive.
01:00Later found out that that had a lot to do with a mood disorder, but at the time, I was
01:06always kind of awkward and didn't really know my place.
01:14I think that that had a lot to do with the fact that my parents and I traveled around
01:19a lot when I was younger.
01:21I lived in Bulgaria, I lived in Cuba, I lived in Russia, I lived in Canada, and I think
01:30that I was always sort of looking for my place.
01:34I was always looking for a way to ground down and figure out who I really am and what am
01:39I even doing here.
01:45And I was not really able to find that until I found fire dancing, and then I finally felt
01:51like it was something that I could call my own.
01:56I mean, I think that fire dance is a form of movement meditation, something creative
02:10that I'm able to do without thinking too much.
02:15That has centered me more than anything else in my life, more than any kind of therapy,
02:20more than any kind of mood disorder medication that I've tried.
02:26It just recalibrates my mind.
02:40So if I could give advice to troubled teenagers, I think I would say find an outlet.
02:53Find something that you can call your own.
03:02If we're feeling upset, if we're feeling angry, then that can be useful.
03:12Don't see that as always the worst thing in the world, but use it.
