The Tyre Collective mitigates emissions by capturing tyre wear at the source to ensure clean air, safeguarding our environment and health.
Transcript
00:00Tire wear is actually the second largest microplastic pollutant in our oceans and not only that
00:13but they become airborne at the roadside.
00:29This is our proof of concept prototype. The tyre is driven by a motor where it's in contact
00:35with a static road which mimics the car constantly skidding and our prototype is powered then
00:41by a dynamo at the top and the electrostatic plates at the bottom is where the particles
00:47are captured at source. So on a real vehicle this would be positioned right behind the
00:51tyre as close to the contact patch as possible.
00:58By capturing at source we prevent these particles from entering the environment as a whole and
01:02therefore we're more effective than other devices that might work at the roadside.
01:23Electric vehicles produce more tyre wear due to their increased torque and battery
01:27weight but as we transition to EVs it's important that we are proactive rather than reactive
01:33when it comes to tyre wear so we're not trying to clean up this problem when it's already too late.
