In this first film ever to feature our hero, he must stop a dangerous ring of Japanese spies. The racism in this serial is appalling, but it is educational for people today to see how easy it was for the United States to dehumanize Japanese-Americans during wartime. The forced migration of innocent Japanese Americans into internment camps is described as "a wise government" rounding up "the shifty-eyed Japs." Remember that the US was also at war with Germany and Italy, but there was never any serious thought of rounding up Germans or Italians. (1943 - Columbia Pictures)
