Makedonia in Northern Greece is a region charged with the memories of 4,000 years of history, a land steeped in toil and struggles, the cradle of a civilisation whose brilliance has radiated for centuries beyond the borders of Greece. Makedonia was the homeland of Alexander the Great, the gifted king who transformed the face of the world, and the homeland of the philosopher Aristoteles, who inspired not only Alexander, but also the evolution of civilisation long after his death.
Makedonia can equally be proud of a long-standing viticultural tradition. Many ancient Greek cities, like Pella, Sindos and Pydna, were famous for their excellent wines. Archaeological findings like the Makedonian crater (340 B.C.), which inspired the design of the Makedonian wine bottles, bear witness to a lengthy wine-growing tradition in this area.
