Vezdekhods (amphibious all terrain cross country vehicles) in action.

I would like to introduce you to the next level of off road vehicles, called vezdekhods. Vezdekhod is a Russian term for all terrain vehicle, which is especially designed for an environment in Siberia, but it can be used anywhere. Vehicles like that have been home made by Russian people for decades, but recently more and more mostly Russian companies started to make vezdekhods on their production lines.

Vezdekhod's capabilities are the most benefitial on soft surfaces. They have wheels with huge size tubes instead tires, with a very low air pressure, which gives them better traction while climbing, and allows them to travel over the surfaces you can't even walk on. Vezdekhods don't sink into the sand, snow, or swamp, they float on the water. Most of them use only wheels to move in the water, but some have a water-jet propulsion system (like jet skis), or propeller on the back for increasing the speed.

The wheels are not only what keeps vezdekhods from sinking, they have also sealed bodys with flotation platforms, mostly made from aluminum and fiberglass. They are light and robust in order to provide enough buoyancy. Driver's seat is often positioned at the center, there is no much room for 2 seats due to the width of front wheels. The engines are small and light and often placed in the middle of the vehicle, which allows to do repairs without leaving the vehicle. You would appreciate it if the vehicle breaks down in the middle of the swamp or when there is 40 degrees below zero outside. Vezdekhods are made from 4x4 to 8x8, with independent suspension being the most common type.
