Countries That Are Most and Least Racially Tolerant

Learn the countries that are the least and most racially tolerant.

A couple of Swedish economists stumbled upon a way to assess how accepting various countries are of people of other races. While looking for a correlation between a country’s economic freedom and it’s tolerance for different races, they discovered a telling question in the World Values Survey.

The survey asked people in 80 different countries what kind of person they don’t want to have as a neighbor. One of the optional responses was people of a different race.

The economists reasoned that countries showing high instances of that response were less racially tolerant. Max Fisher of The Washington Post expanded upon their findings and created a map showing by color the range of racial attitudes throughout the world.

North and South America are pretty much a solid block of cultures welcoming racial diversity, with the exceptions of Venezuela and the Dominican Republic. The United Kingdom, Scandinavia, Australia, and New Zealand are also highly accepting.

India is not one to give a warm welcome to people not like themselves. Jordan and Bangladesh don’t much want to live with other races either.
