Genetic test results show that people of European descent all share common ancestors from a thousand years ago.
This is based on research from geneticists at the University of Southern California and the University of California in Davis that looked for DNA strand segments with the same genetic sequencing.
Their research included DNA samples from more than 2 thousand participants.
The data revealed that samples of genetic material from Britain to Turkey share 20 percent of the same genes, proving that there is a common genealogical ancestor.
The study also compared how closely related people’s genetics were in each country.
Italians are less closely related than other European countries, thanks to their largely stable population that has lasted for thousands of years.
Eastern Europeans were found to be more genetically related to each other than Western Europeans.
Study co-author Graham Coop, a geneticist at the University of California in Davis thinks that based on their findings, “it's likely that everyone in the world is related over just the past few thousand years.”
This idea is similar to an anecdote that if you go back far enough, everyone is related to Charlemagne, the King of France.
