Earth Day Perfect Time for Recycling Electronic Waste

Earth Day is a perfect time for recycling electronic waste.

The world is ridden with an abundance of e-waste, which is short for electronic waste, due to products becoming updated, broken or obsolete.

So what better time is there to safely get rid of them than on Earth Day? Computers, cell phones, printers, scanners and televisions are just a few of the common items that are thrown away.

Each year, there seems to be an increase in the amount of electronic trash and many of the products can end up in landfills. Technology devices usually consists of environmentally-harmful materials like mercury, lead and cadmium.

When these chemicals leak into the soil during a heavy bout of rainfall, or if they are burned, they are released into the atmosphere. The end result is respiratory issues in humans and environmental problems for our planet.

Annually, the United States produces 50 million tons of e-waste and sadly only about 25% of the number is recycled responsibly. The remainder is landfill bound.

It's recommended to take your unwanted and unused gadgets to the nearest e-waste recycling center for proper disposal.
