Yang Xiao Yun (杨晓芸), a retired teacher from Tianjin is the founder of Tianjin Stray Animal Rescue Centre, also known as Common Home For All, began rescuing stray cats and dogs over 10 years ago. After her husband died, Yang contemplated suicide but then found a helpless kitten in a ditch and rediscovered a reason to keep going. She started adopting stray cats in 1995 and in 2003, started adopting stray dogs and established Common Home For All. Presently, she has adopted approx. 1500 dogs and 200 cats. Having sold her own house, she relies on rented space to keep the dogs and cats.
“Right now we can only live one day at a time. I do not know what will happen to them in the future. They are my children, they cannot leave me, and I also cannot leave them. To me, this is a road I cannot turn back from.” Auntie Yang says.
