SASTA - THE DEVLIN SET
PRESENTED BY KIRREN
'Sásta' roughly translates to 'Happy' in Gaelic (pronounced 'Sawsta'), the band was founded by Mícheál Hughes, a 'London Irish' ballad singer & guitarist, who after moving to Brisbane after 7 years in Dublin, couldn't believe his ears one night when he pulled up a seat in a Brisbane music session next to one Rocky Towey, an amazingly talented accordion player from Co.Mayo.The evening just got better, as shortly after a cheeky grin belonging to Kerry man Tommy Donovan flashed across the room as he lit the place up with his tunes - frankly the best banjo & mandolin player I'd ever heard in Australia or Ireland. A few weeks on , Belfast boy Joe Murray graced Australian shores and through a friend was thankfully introduced to the lads. Joe is classically trained and undoubtedly one of the best fiddle players to ever come out of Ireland. 'Sásta' pride themselves on being 'the real deal', as good an Irish traditional music session as you would ever hear anywhere in Ireland. Sásta will be sure to entertain you and will have you tapping your feet, mesmorised by jaunting jigs, pumping reels, haunting ballads and funny songs.
