Sometimes glitchy, sometimes hard with the beats, German producer/musician Carsten Aermes is Phon.O. Moving from Germany's rural Harz Mountains to Berlin in 1997, Phon.O began working on his electronic music in the heart of the city in 1998. He went aboveground in 2000 with the Modul EP on Kit Clayton and DJ Jasper's label, Cytrax. A year later the EP Typodub and the full-length Partition B appeared on the label before Phon.O made the switch to Shitkatapult in 2002 with the EP Bockflinte. The Mokkastuebchen EP appeared a year later, but Aermes took a break from music after its release to study communication design and work in the world of video installations and album cover design. He returned to recording in 2005 with the "Trick or Treat" 12" and the full-length Burn Down the Town, released by Tigerbeat6 in the U.S. and Shitkatapult in all other territories.
