AEGEE Leipzig Walls to Bridges (6.-9. Dec 2012)

  • vor 12 Jahren
Experience Leipzig, a flourishing city at the heart of Europe and a buzzing center of culture, trade and education! Situated at the crossroads of Europe's two most important medieval trading routes, Leipzig looks back on a long tradition of an exchange process with large parts of Europe that has influenced its architecture and its inhabitants' mentality. During the communist time it was here in Leipzig where the civic movement against the communist regime started which later led to the Fall of the Berlin wall. Tear down walls -- build bridges. We have chosen this motto for our event not only because Leipzig has the third highest number of bridges in Germany but because of the town's spirit that connects people!
During our event, we will explore the city following different symbols, one for each day: Bridges, Books and Blossoms. On the first day we will dive into the town's history, discovering different districts, that are coined by diverse styles of architecture and show you the most beautiful of our several hundred bridges. The second day we will visit the national library, publishing houses, the exhibition grounds and meet a specialist that will tell us about censorship in GDR times. The third day we want to discover how parts of the city that were once declared dead are now flourishing again. That will contain a trip to Europe's largest former cotton factory that now accommodates restaurants and art galleries. Of course we also have a diverse program for the evenings, including a walk on the famous Christmas market, a Bach concert, a bit of clubbing and -- obviously -- the compulsory European night! At the end we will have a winter barbecue in the beautiful Clara Park. Expect a challenging program that won't leave you much time for sleep -- but we can guarantee that it will be worth it! See you in Leipzig!
