Alice in Wonderland goes gothic

Yasutaka Funakoshi wandered deeper down the rabbit hole, resurrecting a darker version of Alice in Wonderland for his latest collection.

The designer unveiled his gothic-fantasy creations for brand Alice Auaa at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Tokyo.

Models lurked down the runway, exhibiting characters like the Mad Hatter from Lewis Carroll's novel.

Or objects like the table where Alice drank the potion to shrink and enter the fantasy world.

(SOUNDBITE) Yasutaka Funakoshi, designer for Alice Auaa, saying (Japanese):

"They're very different from real clothes and so what I'm making is something where one could walk down the street while wearing a table. I want to do that sort of thing; to sort of see, in some ways, what it'd be like and what people's reactions would be."

The "Alice in Wonderland in Me" exhibition is in step with Funakoshi's other gothic designs, which have attracted a large following.
