The highly anticipated new book from Harry Potter author JK Rowling hit shelves early Thursday.

"The Casual Vacancy", Rowling's first foray into adult fiction, looks destined for the top of best-seller lists.

Store Manager of a central London branch of Foyles bookstore, Gary Powell, is confident Rowling's loyal wizard fanbase will read the new book.

"A lot of adults read her books anyway so I think they're going to identify with her style of writing and they'll enjoy the way she writes and what she writes, and so I think the fact that it's an adult novel opposed to a children's novel shouldn't make that much of a difference."

Although there were not many fans out to buy copies Thursday morning, over a million orders have already been placed for the book.

Rowling is no stranger to huge sales.

Fans camped out in front of bookstores globally to get their hands on a copy of the final book in her Harry Potter series - "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."

It became the fastest-selling book in history.
