It’s hard to believe a restaurant would take offense to a married couple sitting together.

However, a McDonald’s in Pakistan barred a husband and wife from sitting next to one another. The hubby sat down next to his spouse, putting his arm on the seat behind her.

Following that simple gesture, an employee asked the man to move to the seat across from his wife. The worker stated “Couples sitting together is against the policy of McDonalds Pakistan, as it goes against the family atmosphere of the restaurant.” The husband spoke to two managers and the underlying issue seemed to be the physical closeness of a man and woman in public. The man has posted the alleged incident on his blog and the McDonald’s branch claims to be investigating the issue.

In a yet another local twist, a Pizza Hut in Pakistan once allowed an all-you-can-eat offer for a Ramadan Fiesta promotion. However, the branch changed the rules, only allowing customers to have a single pizza. A spokesperson stated “The former all-you-can-eat format served as an unrestrained invitation to gluttony and waste, colliding with the very spirit of Ramadan”.
