Penrose cooling

A random tiling is transformed into a Penrose tiling by flips. A flip consists in rotating 180° a hexagon made of three tiles. At each time, a flip is randomly chosen among those which do not increase the number of local patterns which do not appear in a Penrose tiling (for more details see http://iopscience.iop.org/1742-6596/226/1/012022)
