While looking after Auntie Hilda's flat, Paul leaves a cup on the sideboard which causes a stain. They decide to buy something to cover it and find the Maltby Falcon, which at the time is mixed up with another identical pair, one of which contains a priceless diamond, when the shopkeeper and his companion find that it is missing, they head out to retrieve the diamond, but it the task isn't as easy as they first thought.
