A dollar and a dream: Record-breaking jackpot lottery draws hopefuls

Lining up for millions...make that megamillions.

Across the United States people placing their bets hoping to cash in on a $640 million jackpot.

In Los Angeles some are leaving fortune to chance.

"I'm not going with any system. Random, Quick Picks."

Similar scenes in Washington , D.C. where people are banking on dollar and a dream.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) DIANE SCHIFF, LOTTERY TICKET BUYER, SAYING :

"If I win the money, there are lots of things. We actually about to do renovation on our house, so maybe we'll make it a little bigger would help family members and I would donate, because there are lots of people who can use the money."

(SOUNDBITE) (English) LOUISA FILMER, 8-YEAR OLD GIRL, SAYING :

"I'd probably buy iPads for all my friends. (REPORTER SAYING : What will you buy for yourself?) I'd probably buy an iPhone 4S or something like that."

The odds of winning the $640 million jackpot are dismal- 1 in about 176 million-but for many buyers the grand prize is worth the $1 gamble.
