KING B

KingB has been involved in melding melodies and beating beats since he gained control of his neck muscles and learned to nod his head. He is a Beat Smith by name and by nature, having performed as a dj/beatmaker/emcee since 2000. KingB's music is strongly informed by local culture but his musical influences are diverse, from Bob Marley to Tom Waits to De La Soul to.

"I grew up listening to so manny different types of music. From the music my parents listened to to what my friends at school had, to what friends would bring back to the country from the States the UK and Europe... Hip-hop has been the biggest musical influence for me for most of my life, I think it may have a lot to do with it being a melting point of almost all other styles of music and a seed for manny more".

in 2001 KingB formed Hip-Hop group Illuminating Shadows alongside fellow Emcee and High School friend Iain Robinson aka Creamy Ewok Baggends. He then went on to join the 7 piece Durban based Hip-Hop jazz outfit BIG IDEA, and alongside Quincy Fynn and Rory Jacobs started RUFFINARY RECORDS.

KingB has performed at events, festivals and venues throughout the country as a vocalist and dj for two Durban based bands, Big Idea, Illuminating Shadows and as KingB.

Production Credits include: Psycles (illshad), Hot Box (Big Idea), Flight Path (Jet Wentworth), Higher Flyer for Hire (Ewok), Jam in the Traffic (National Compilation) and Escape From Juniper Hills (Henry Bowers, Sweden).
