Sean Sonego, at 18 years of age, is an upcoming singer/songwriter from Edmonton. As one of Alberta's most active young performers, Sean has enjoyed major competition success in both Canada and the U.S. that has taken him all the way to Nashville and Hollywood to perform.
Sean has had the honor of singing at the CCMA's 2010 at Rexall Place as he backed up Johnny Reid -- songwriter of the year, fan choice award recipient and winner of 13 CCMA's. With role models like Reid who construct a following of loyal fans and walk through the world with integrity, Sean is well on his way to living out his dream. In addition to working on his first CD that will be released in 2011, Sean always makes time to help others. Whether it is visiting children at Kid's Kottage, the Stollery Children's Hospital or helping out with Sport's Buddies, a sports program in the inner city, Sean will do whatever he can to provide the best for the community. His philanthropic efforts have resulted in nominations for the AFP Youth Philanthropy Heart and Soul Award and Stars of Alberta 2010.
Sean lives his life by the adage, "God's gift to you is your talent; what you do with that talent is your gift to god". With that philosophy buried deep in his heart and soul, there is no doubt that this young man will reach excellence.
As we have discovered, you never know what direction your life will take. Sean had written a song called "A Place to Call Home" after being moved by the hardships that fall upon those who end up without a home. A few months later, the Homeless Commission of Edmonton tabled their report titled A Place to Call Home. Sean knew that this was a destined moment in his life and quickly offered up his song to the Commission to use in their efforts to end homelessness.
Coming from a family where philanthropy is quite simply a way of life, as far back as grade 9, Sean took part in a leadership course at school where he decided that he wanted to raise money for Edmonton's Hot Lunch Program. This is where the "Feeding the Soul" Charity Concert was born. Over 100 youth and adults became involved in this initiative ultimately raising over $10,000.00 for this worthy program; and that was just the beginning. He has since then had the pleasure of being part of "Soaring with Song", a fundraiser put on for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation which provided him with the opportunity to share the stage with world renowned pianist William Joseph, Country Artist Brett Kissell, all the while being backed by David Foster's orchestra.
Sean has performed at Rexall Place, the Jubilee Auditorium and the Winspear Center for the Arts and has had the pleasure of performing at the closing ceremonies for the Alberta Summer Games in Peace River, several TSN recorded tournaments including the ESSO CUP, and the 2011 World Financial Group Continental Cup, and he has performed at Big Valley Jamboree for the last three years. With over 38 performances already under his belt as of April 30th, 2011, and with influences such as Amos Lee, John Mayer, Justin Nozuka, Johnny Reid, Ruthie Foster, and Jack Johnson, this engaging performer is a must to see.
