Rockabilly-Eclectic-Punk-Lounge reads like another 'Aren't we so ironic' genre tag listed on every second band's myspace page you've come across in the last three years. Though, when it comes to Run With The Kittens, every journalist, blogger and concert reviewer that has written about them, dedicates a few lines to acknowledge the complete musical insanity that this Toronto foursome conjures each time they take the stage.
"...the Kittens' roulette wheel of heavy space country, hardcore freak lounge, dub parodies and ironic metal makes them wholly unique." Evan Dickson, Chart Magazine
"...a highly amusing genre-obliterating stir-fry that makes Midnite Vultures sound like Dido with the volume low." Jay Richards, NOW Magazine
"When a CD release party show starts out by having two masked people in red jumpsuits carrying a large chain join the band on stage, and then a female body-builder arrives, breaks the chain, and starts to shuck corn, you know it's not going to be your average t-shirt-and-jeans kind of set..." Pete Nema, Pete Nema Blog
Slaves to the art of live performance, the Kittens are quite aware of where their strengths lie. Given 2 national tours (Canada), their tour of Holland, their incessant Ontario tours, their arsenal of festival appearances (Eaglewood Folk Festival, Mariposa Folk Festival, NXNE festival, Orillia Comedy Festival, Biker Festival to name a few), their 5 year weekly residency at Toronto's Indie Music cornerstone: The Cameron House, and their monthly residencies in Guelph, Kitchener & Midland - On stage is where you're most likely to see them on any given night. It's in these live performances that they really shine, or as BlogTO wrote after catching a performance at NXNE '08: "I don't use these words lightly, so listen up...if you pass up the opportunity to witness this genius spectacle you're making a huge mistake, one that could haunt you until the end of your days." Perhaps that's also why Toronto Independent Music Awards (TIMA) awarded them 'Best Live Electric Band'.
