The band Liberty Kings was formed in 2009, the bands members have been involved in many different projects. They are based in Dublin, Ireland. The band consists of Darragh Kelly (Vocals, Synthesizers), Brian Kelly (Guitar, Vocals), Eoghan Mac Aoidh (Guitar, Synthesizers, Vocals), Colm Galo Slattery (Bass, Vocals), Jason Lawless (Drums). Their musical style has taken elements from many genres such as alternative rock, electronic, hip-hop, funk etc. The band began to work professional hours in early 2009 and found there sound and feet as a band. They recorded there first two singles Invaded and Electronic Army in March 2010 which is to be released on June 19th at a single launch in Dublin city.
It has been said that the name Liberty Kings was inspired by their Dublin surroundings. Generally the band all come together and write the music as a team. Darragh writes the lyrics and a general theme for the individual songs. Sometimes the lyrics come before the music, it changes from day to day. They find jamming and improvising a big creative spark for a lot of the music and sometimes songs simply get picked out of thin air. The lyrics are generally about social commentary and they have been known to write songs that are anti-establishment. When the guys first started playing together there was a mix of influences but over time they gelled together really well and began to create their own unique sound and style.
Liberty Kings have played the Dublin circuit a lot. Whelans, The Village, Sugar Club, Twisted Pepper, Pravda, The Mezz, The Mercantile, The Boom Boom Room, The Slaughtered Lamb, Captain America's and Mother Reilly's to name but a few. The band has also done gigs outside of Dublin at Knockanstockan Festival, Róisin Dubhs of Galway and played The Circus in Berlin.
Liberty Kings are due to do their first commercial tour of Europe in early August 2010, and will continue to work hard and fulfil their aspirations of worldwide success.
