Exotic Pets - Baby Striped Crested Gecko - as part of the series on pets and animals by GeoBeats.

I am going to start with a baby Striped Crested Gecko. They originated from the New Caledonian Islands. They were known to be extinct until 1994 when a herpetologist found them after a recent flooding hurricane. In '95 they began being imported into the States for hobbyists to start studying. He is roughly 5, 6 months old. Full grown they exceed to be 8 to 9 inches long. They are definitely very spunky, love to jump. These make excellent pets for starter pets for children. The stripe going all the way down the back, with the texturing on the sides that is not connecting with the pattern.

These guys are pretty simple to care for. Once a week I usually offer them crickets. This guy is obviously going to be eating small ones. They also eat the Repashi Crested Gecko Diet, it is a powder mix which you add water to, every other night. It is basically baby food. They are going to eat that probably every other to every three days. They are very inexpensive to care for, once you have your basic setup.
