Thanksgiving - Turkey and Calories: Nutrition

I'm Alyssa, a registered dietitian with Nutrition Resolution. Part of the turkey that's higher in calories is going to be the dark meat or the skin. So when you're choosing which part of the turkey to eat, actually, the wing meat is going to have a little bit more calories than the leg meat. And the white meat is going to be the best choice.

Dark meat has about the same number of calories as an equal size portion of the white meat with the skin, so it really depends on what you prefer. If you're cooking for a small group, you might just cook a turkey breast, and not cook the whole bird. That way, all you have is the white breast meat. You just want to make sure that, maybe, instead of rubbing the turkey down with butter, to spray it with some non fat cooking spray. And then you can use herbs and spices to add seasoning.
