Missouri Jazz Band - I Could Stand A Lot Of Lovin' From You

Missouri Jazz Band was a pseudonym used by several bands, but in this case it refers to Billy James' Orchestra. Although he was a talented songwriter who composed quite a few tunes and recorded a significant number of good dance band sides for dime store labels, unfortunately hardly anything is known about him today. The vocalist on this delightful 1928 recording, Arthur Fields (1888-1953) was a baritone, a successful songwriter and prolific recording artist in the 1910-1930s. Among Field's most prolific partnerships was the one with bandleader and pianist Fred Hall, with whom he made plenty of records and co-wrote several songs, often with comic titles like The Shoes We Have Left Are All Right and I Can't Sleep In The Movies Anymore. Hall and Fields also broadcasted together as Rex Cole's Mountaineers. I apologize for the slight sound blasting in loud passages, which was not on my original transfer but is caused by DM compression. For better sound pull down DM screen speaker volume.
