Bridge-Scour-Monitoring

The Bridge Scour Monitoring Device was developed by the University of Pittsburgh to help state and municipal authorities detect bridge scour in a more cost effective and timely manner that current physical inspection. The monitors are buried in the aggregate around the foundation and or abutment, when severe weather washes away the aggregate, the monitors are released and float to the water’s surface. At the surface they right themselves and turn on an RFID signal which in turn alerts a tracking or monitoring signal on the bridge and can alert proper authorities to the immediate situation of the bridge.
