Parenting: Teenage Kids and Discipline

Parenting: Teenage Kids and Discipline - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. Disciplining out teens is really tough. We have to remember that the word discipline means to teach. So when we say we are disciplining our teens we are teaching them how we want them to act and how we want them to behave, and they resist that. They think they know more than us, they think they want to be independent. We have to show them that their independence is earned by making good choices. So when our kids continuously do the wrong things and make the wrong choices, their life is not going to go the way we want it to go. So as parents we need to set up the rules and the expectations. We need to set up some pre-determined consequences and that we need to follow through if our kids make those poor choices. And, when they make good choices we need to make sure that they get positive consequences and get rewarded for making the good choices.
