Yesterday people around the world celebrated the Easter holiday. And in the Philippines, people were out on the streets, marking what is a day of joy for many.

On Sunday, hundreds of Filipino devotees danced in the streets in celebration of the Easter festivities.

[Monsignor Albert Venus, St. Joseph Parish of Las Pias]:
"Because this is the most joyful day, powerful day, when Jesus rose from the dead. And so we believe that with His power, we can rise through whatever situations we have in life."

Girls in white dresses carrying baskets of flowers dance to the tune of traditional music. The music is unique in every church and is passed on from one generation to another.

[Juaning Arevalo, Celebrating Easter]:
"We dance because we want to show our faith and thanks to God, the best way we can."

Over 80 percent of the 94-million Philippine populations are Catholics, where devotees express their faith in various ways.

Easter Sunday is a major festivity in the Filipino Lent season and usually falls between March 22 and April 25.
