The Best of Times - Close to You

This is another of my favorite scenes from the 1986 sports film, The Best of Times. Here, Kurt Russell as Reno Hightower, attempts to woo back his now separated wife Gigi (Pamela Reed) through the door of her motel room. Singing what might be the most cheesy of Carpenters hits, Close To You (1970), has to be one of the most absurdly comic and mortifyingly nostalgic covers in film (done bravely by Russell, I might add). Still, in this redemptive comedy, it works (at least for me).
