Have-a-go heroes tackle gunman in robbery

A pair of armed robbers were confronted by two have-a-go heroes as they attempted to raid a Peterborough jewellery shop.

The men went into the Harvey Daly shop posing as customers on Friday.

One held a gun to jeweller Chris Hopper's head while his accomplice jumped the counter in an attempt to scoop up gold rings and other valuables.

Determined to stop the attackers, Mr Hopper grappled with both robbers, forcing them out of his shop.

He said: "I just didn't think about it. I just acted on old instinct and just went for it. Probably silly thinking about it now."

The drama continued on the street outside as a passer-by bravely tried to tackle the gunman. Lithuanian Deivydas Jacikas, 20, said he acted on impulse despite the risks, saying: "He can shoot me, yeah, I can die. he can kill me. Phew. It's not easy to think of everything because no time."

CCTV cameras captured the faces of the robbers. Police have appealed to the public to assist in tracking them down.
