A trooper from India's paramilitary Border Security Force is injured after being shot by Pakistani Rangers from across the border of the two countries.

It’s left the agricultural lands here deserted, with Indian farmers and laborers frightened that they might be shot.

[Jagar Singh, Village Head]: (Hindi)
"There is no person in the border area and the firing is going on since morning. There should be a solution to this. If the problems of the landlords are not solved all the fields will be empty."

Villagers here now feel very afraid.

[Kamli Devi, Villager]: (Hindi)
"We cannot go to our homes. It's very difficult for us to save ourselves. We didn't get water or even food."

The gunfire started at around 6:30 a.m. and lasted for more than an hour and a half.
