Update 6 - March 27th 2010

Howard goes out on the doorstep in Colyers Ward where the Conservative Councillors have all stood down. He also goes to see work on the Blackwall Tunnel where engineering is going to mean disruption for local people for the next two years.

The Blackwall Tunnel Northbound is now 113 years old and is one of the oldest road tunnels in heavy daily use anywhere in the world. It needs some fundamental work to bring it up to standard - particularly for fire safety. However, because of pressure from truck companies and the O2, Transport for London have decided to keep traffic flowing Northbound by switching it to the Southbound tunnel.

This means that if you are working late or out late in North London, you won't be able to get home at night through the Blackwall Tunnel.

We need mroe bridges - one at Silvertown and one from Bexley - to help ease the huge pressure on Blackwall. We also need up to date traffic management systems across London. Ken was able to deliver the congestion charge - why can't we have systems which help ease traffic flow ?

This is an ongoing campaign for me - South East London is losing out.
