You have followed all of the safety checks before seating your child in the car seat and you are completely happy that your child is safe. You are using the seat every other day in the knowledge that when you first fitted the car seat it was installed correctly and seemed very safe for your child. There have been no accidents and not had to worry too much about your child being unsafe in the car.... but are you doing anything wrong here? Okay so no problems have occurred so how could you possibly be doing anything wrong? But there is something wrong here and it is a mistake that many parents seem to make. Every time your child uses the child travel seat something may become slightly slack for example, the harness, or even the seat belt that is holding babies car seat. Here are some safety checks and tips you should use before every journey with your child: Always check that the seat does not move more than an inch in any direction, forward, left and right. Always make sure seat belts are adjusted properly with no twists in the belt. When you have seated your child in their seat and buckled them in, make sure the harness/buckle is tight enough. A simple test for this would be to slide one or two fingers under the harness. If there is enough room for more fingers then the harness is too loose. You should be able to fit one or two fingers under the harness only. Also be aware to ensure the belt isnt too tight. Take your time when placing your child in their child travel seat to ensure they are correctly restrained. If any belts etc are slack then refer to the manufacturers manual to ensure you re-fit it correctly.
