The Sinking of the Lancastria.

The 'troopship', namely HMT Lancastria was sunk by German bombers on 17th June, 1940, during the 'Dunkirk Evacuation'. Estimates of the loss of life vary from about 4000 to 6000 people; it was one of the worst maritime disasters ever. The ship was overloaded with passengers and about to set off for the British coast, when it was attacked by German bombers during the Second World War.
