Solar Impulse - Wings Delivery

  • vor 15 Jahren
Over hill and dale: Three light-weights in a 10-ton-truck on their way to Dübendorf One careless movement and all the work of the past few months could be in danger. A dent, a crack or a tear in the wrong place and the parts for the wings of the Solar Impulse prototype may have to be built all over again. The tension matched the importance of the delivery as the three parts made from razor-thin sheets of carbon fibre were transported from Lake Geneva to the Solar Impulse hangar in Dübendorf. To make sure they survived the 200 kilometres long journey up hill and down dale in one piece, the delicate parts, each weighing only 120kg, were carefully packed into three huge transport boxes and carried in a special convoy on a lorry through the night.
