00:00Liverpool may have clinched the Premier League title, but suggestions that it's been an easy win
00:08don't sit well with those close to the club, including Liverpool World's Will Rooney.
00:13I caught up with Rooney after the Reds secured one hand on the trophy
00:16and he was quick to shut down claims of a soft title race.
00:21People will point to City having a dip or Arsenal falling away,
00:24but you can't ignore what Liverpool have done.
00:26This has been one of the most relentless teams in recent memory, especially under a new manager.
00:32Arnie Schlott's first season at Anfield has seen him navigate injuries, tactical shifts
00:37and the pressure of following in Jurgen Klopp's footsteps, all while keeping Liverpool focused and firing.
00:43He's brought calmness, clarity and belief and there's nothing easy about that.
00:48The title is even more impressive given the depth of competition in the league
00:52and the transition the squad has undergone.
00:55Liverpool's achievement deserves respect, not excuses and winning the Premier League in any year
01:00is a memental task. Schlott's done it in his debut season and that's an elite achievement.
01:07So, well, looking at Liverpool and in terms of the title race,
01:11we've obviously mentioned how much of a great achievement it was for Arnie Schlott to come in
01:15and do it in his first season.
01:16And, you know, taking nothing away from that, have they sort of won a week of Premier League?
01:21You know, obviously we've seen the fall off of Manchester City after an incredible four titles in a row.
01:27Arsenal were there and then they weren't suddenly.
01:30You know, you still have to go and do it, obviously.
01:32But is there that sort of doubt in terms of Liverpool's mind where they've had to go and win it
01:39and it might have been a week of Premier League this campaign round?
01:43That's the theory, certainly, from some quarters.
01:46Definitely those outside of the Red Harbour, Merseyside that, as you say,
01:50have Liverpool took advantage of maybe a week of Premier League?
01:54Well, I don't think it has because, you know, look at, for a starting point,
02:00look at Aston Villa's performance against Paris Saint-Germain,
02:02a team who were arguably the best in Europe, they went and beat PSG,
02:09you know, a team who were, as we speak, 6th or 7th in the Premier League.
02:13Liverpool have beaten them comfortably this season and to do with Villa Park.
02:17So there's a few barometers.
02:19You look at the race for Europe now and the teams that are in it,
02:22it's really close.
02:23Teams like Fulham are up there and Brighton are up there and Bournemouth have been impressive.
02:27And Anastas said it a few times, you know, since he arrived from Holland,
02:33that in Holland, there's players at the bottom of the table
02:38who won't get in teams near the top, but that's not the case in the Premier League.
02:41I mean, look at West Ham, who Liverpool played last time out.
02:45Kudos and Paqueta, he praised.
02:47Jared Bowden have got a court.
02:49You look at a team like Wolves, Matthias Cooney is going to have a lot of suitors
02:53who will want him.
02:55I mean, looking a favour from that, Tottenham are, what, 15th, Man Utd has got
03:00how many international players?
03:01And then a team like Everton have got some real players,
03:04including the likes of Jared Bramford, who probably could go to any club
03:08that he wanted to if he did want to leave.
03:10So I don't think that Liverpool are looking at it that way.
03:15I think that they're looking at the Premier League,
03:17that maybe the very, very top teams have dropped off a little bit.
03:22As you say, Man City, no one expected there.
03:25Their demise, Arsenal have had their issues.
03:28But yes, Liverpool were there until the final, probably final month,
03:33six weeks of last season, for the tails off.
03:36They had something to build on, but no, I definitely think
03:39it's been a strong Premier League overall this season.
03:43Yeah, it's funny how you say that Arne Schlott's clearly come in
03:46and learnt a lot of lessons, especially about the English top flight.
03:50Do you feel there's been, how many lessons do you feel he has learnt
03:54in terms of, you know, the competitiveness of the division?
03:57It's a complete change to Dutch football.
03:59Do you feel there's been a few big factors like, you know,
04:02understanding how competitive the league can be?
04:04As you say, competing with the likes of Wolves West Ham.
04:07They've had a terrible season by their standards.
04:09But, you know, it's a league where anyone can give them a game
04:13and Arne Schlott had to learn and adapt to that fairly quickly.
04:17Yeah, exactly.
04:18And I think he might have known it coming in,
04:20but maybe it's different when you're standing there on the touchline as well
04:23and you actually see how quick these players are.
04:27I think it was one game when he was serving a touchline ban
04:31and he said that the game looks so much faster
04:35when you are on the touchline.
04:37Those are the things that you'll be looking at moving forward
04:40to kind of rotate a little bit more maybe next season.
