00:00Here's today's Derbyshire Times video bulletin. Derbyshire police have issued reassurances to
00:05residents after homes were evacuated and bomb squad officers carried out a controlled explosion.
00:11Police were called to the Elm Avenue area of Sandieka following reports that an amount of
00:16ammunition had been found. A cordon was put in place and homes were evacuated while the items
00:21were safely secured on Sunday evening. The explosives ordinate disposal unit of the army
00:26destroyed the items in a controlled explosion. A Derbyshire police spokesperson said
00:32people living nearby may have heard a loud bang but we would like to reassure them that there's
00:36no reason to be alarmed. Residents who were asked to temporarily leave their homes have since been
00:41allowed to return. We would like to thank them for their patience whilst we dealt with this incident.
00:49Plans to build a modern three-story block of flats and shops in a Derbyshire town
00:53have been submitted to planners. The scheme would see 21 flats and a number of shops built on the
00:58former original factory shop site in Grosvenor Road Ripley which closed in 2021. If approved by
01:05An Bavaria Borough Council the former would be demolished and replaced with a three-story modern
01:09building with shops on the ground floor and two additional upper floors of flats. The large single
01:15story former shop sits next to the town's library and close to the town hall and Borough Council
01:20headquarters. A decision will be made by the council in the next few months.
