00:41He confessed this in his meetings with Dominican bishops, and in his messages filled with affection for this land of Santa Maria de la Alta Gratia.
00:48From Rome, he reminded us that faith is lived with joy and boldness, as he himself wrote in Evangelii Gaudium, inspiring thousands in our country to serve with mercy.
01:00Didn't his voice resonate here when he denounced the throwaway culture, or when he called for young people to be protagonists of change?
01:08His teaching reached our neighborhoods, the prisons where the marginalized embrace each other, the homilies that repeated his cry, no to indifference.
01:18Today, as we bid him farewell with the simplicity he asked for, without pomp, like every Christian,
01:24the Dominican Republic mourns a father who, although distant in miles, was close in spirit.
01:31May the little brown woman of the Caribbean, whom he loved so much from afar, now receive him in her lap.
01:37And may his legacy of tenderness and justice live on in our works.
